Room Service: Good afternoon! Room surbiss. How can I help you?
Me: Good afternoon. I would like to have a club sandwich and a Coke Zero.
Room Service: Sorry serr, but we don’t have any tomatoes right now. We are out of them unfortunately.
Me: Okay. I’ll change to the club sandwich without tomatoes, that is.
Room Service: Would you like potato wedges or prench prize with that, serr?
Me: French fries, please.
Room Service: Sorry serr, but we are out of potatoes also today. We do have potato chips if you want doze?
Me: You are out of potatoes and knowing that you just offered me a choice between potato wedges and french fries? Odd. Okay, I’ll have the chips then.
Room Service: Yes, sorry serr, just a bad habit. I always gib the choice for potato wedges and prench prize. Dat is the normal way. But today we are out.
Me: Yes, I understand that. But I am here wondering how it is that the main restaurant in a four star hotel serving international guests can be out of both potatoes and tomatoes? Those are very basic food items.
Room Service: Yes, serr, but you need to understand that today is a Sunday and the Philippines is a Catholic country. Logistics is difficult on Sundays.
Me: There is a very simple fix to that. On Saturday you buy enough tomatoes and potatoes to last you through to Monday. Then you won’t have these issues anymore.
Room Service: Oh no serr, we couldn’t do that. Monday is a regular day and we don’t have problems to get supplied on Monday.
